A Fault-Tolerant CORBA Name Server
نویسنده
چکیده
OMG CORBA applications require a distributed naming service in order to install and to retrieve object references. High availability of the naming service is important since most CORBA applications need to access it at least once during their lifetime. Unfortunately , the OMG standards do not deal with availability issues; the naming services of many of the commercially available CORBA object request brokers introduce single points of failure. In this paper we describe the design and implementation of a replicated, highly-available CORBA name server that adheres to the OMG Common Object Services Speciication. Our naming service can be replicated at run-time, while many applications are installing and retrieving object references. We compare our approach with the approaches taken by the ILU, NEO, Orbix, and DOME object request brokers. The performance of our name server is measured for various degrees of replication.

CosNamingFT - A Fault-Tolerant CORBA Naming Service
This paper describes the design and implementation of a fault-tolerant CORBA naming service CosNamingFT. Every CORBA object is accessed through its Interoperable Object Reference (IOR), which is registered with the CORBA name service. The name service therefore is a critical gateway to all objects in a distributed system; to avoid having a single point of failure, the name service should be mad...
متن کاملLightweight Fault Tolerance in CORBA
Although fault-tolerant implementations of CORBA have been available for several years, the standard specification of fault-tolerant CORBA (FT-CORBA) has been finalized only recently. This specification defines simple, minimal mechanisms for regular clients to deal with fault-tolerant servers, as well as a wide spectrum of services and APIs for implementing replicated, fault-tolerant servers. W...
متن کاملFault tolerant system with imperfect coverage, reboot and server vacation
This study is concerned with the performance modeling of a fault tolerant system consisting of operating units supported by a combination of warm and cold spares. The on-line as well as warm standby units are subject to failures and are send for the repair to a repair facility having single repairman which is prone to failure. If the failed unit is not detected, the system enters into an unsafe...
متن کاملResponsive Services with CORBA
The Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) is a widely-accepted, standardized system integration framework based on distributed object technologies. CORBA facilitates general computing environments and does not explicitly address the needs of responsive (fault-tolerant, real-time) computing. Therefore, the question remains how to extend today’s CORBA implementations for support of re...
متن کاملDeveloping a Heterogeneous Intrusion Tolerant CORBA System
Intrusion Tolerant systems provide high-integrity and high-availability services to their clients in the face of successful attacks from an adversary. The Intrusion Tolerant Distributed Object Systems (ITDOS) research project is developing an architecture for a heterogeneous intrusion tolerant distributed object system. ITDOS integrates a Byzantine Fault Tolerant multicast protocol into an open...
